2027 Kia EV3: Electric Range for Commutes and Road Trips
A weekday commute and a weekend escape can ask very different things from the same vehicle. Monday might mean traffic, parking and a predictable route to work. By Saturday, the plan could include more kilometres, extra gear and roads well beyond the usual daily loop.
The Kia EV3 offers several configurations for that mix of travel. The lineup starts with a Standard Range front-wheel-drive model and expands to Long Range FWD and AWD options. Preliminary estimated electric range reaches up to 517 km with Long Range FWD, while Long Range AWD provides an estimated 451 km.
Inside, a 60:40 split-fold rear seat and adjustable cargo floor let the cabin shift from weekday passenger space to a larger load area. Available features such as a Smart Power Liftgate, Vehicle-to-Load capability and AWD add more options as the trim level changes.
Range Choices for the Daily Commute
The EV3 lineup offers two battery sizes, allowing drivers to match the vehicle more closely to their typical travel distance. Light FWD uses a 58.3-kWh lithium-ion battery. Its preliminary estimated all-electric range is 356 km. Long Range FWD models use an 81.4-kWh lithium-ion battery, increasing the preliminary range estimate to 517 km.
Both FWD configurations use a permanent magnet synchronous motor rated at 201 horsepower and 209 lb-ft of torque. Power goes through a single-speed reduction gear.
The lineup includes:
- Light FWD with Standard Range battery
- Wind FWD or AWD
- Land FWD or AWD
- GT-Line FWD or AWD
- GT-Line Limited FWD or AWD
This range of configurations lets you choose between a smaller battery for the Light and the larger Long Range battery available from the Wind upward.
AWD for Travel Beyond the Regular Route
The Wind is the first trim available with all-wheel drive. AWD is also offered on Land, GT-Line and GT-Line Limited models. Long Range AWD uses the 81.4-kWh battery and front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors. Combined output is 262 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. Its preliminary estimated electric range is 451 km.
AWD versions use 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/45R19 tires. The Light FWD and Wind FWD use 17-inch wheels with 215/60R17 tires, while Land, GT-Line and GT-Line Limited FWD models have 19-inch wheels with 215/50R19 tires.
The EV3 chassis uses MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link rear suspension. The specification also lists column-type motor-driven power steering, an electronic parking brake, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Assist Control, and Downhill Brake Control.
Charge Times for Home and Longer Drives
An EV used for both commuting and road trips needs more than one way to replenish its battery. The EV3 supports Level 1, Level 2 and DC fast charging. For the 58.3-kWh Standard Range battery, a 10-to-100-percent charge with an 11-kW Level 2 EVSE at 240 volts and 48 amps has a preliminary estimated time of 5 hours 10 minutes. The 81.4-kWh Long Range battery has a preliminary estimate of 7 hours under the same Level 2 conditions.
For DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent with a 350-kW EVSE, preliminary estimates are:
- 29 minutes for Standard Range FWD
- 31 minutes for Long Range FWD
- 31 minutes for Long Range AWD
That combination supports different charge routines. Level 2 charging fits longer stops at home, while compatible DC fast charging offers an option when the route extends farther.
Compact Size for Crowded Weekdays
A vehicle that spends much of its time on a commute also has to deal with parking lots, traffic and regular urban trips. The EV3 measures 4,300 mm long in Light, Wind and Land form. GT-Line models extend slightly to 4,310 mm. Width is 1,850 mm, and the wheelbase measures 2,680 mm. Height is 1,570 mm for Light, Wind and Land and 1,580 mm for GT-Line. Preliminary minimum ground clearance measures 150 mm on Light, Wind and Land and 157 mm on GT-Line.
Despite the compact exterior dimensions, the cabin provides 1,060 mm of front legroom and 950 mm in the second row. Shoulder room measures 1,443 mm in front and 1,400 mm in the rear.
Cargo Space for a Weekend Change of Pace
The briefcase, laptop bag or groceries of a normal weekday do not require the same space as luggage and outdoor gear. The EV3 addresses that difference with a 60:40 split-fold rear seat and an adjustable cargo floor.
With the second row upright, preliminary cargo volume is 609 litres with the floor in its high position or 740 litres in the low position. Fold the rear seats and capacity expands to 1,470 litres with the cargo floor high. Set the floor low and the preliminary figure increases to 1,600 litres. A 25-litre frunk provides another storage area at the front of the vehicle. The EV3 is not rated for towing, so its adventure-oriented cargo capability centres on the space inside the vehicle rather than trailer use.
Light Covers the Daily Essentials
The Light FWD establishes the EV3 equipment package with features that suit regular commuting. Heated front seats and cloth upholstery are standard. Both front seats have manual height adjustment, while the steering wheel offers tilt and telescopic adjustment. Dual-zone automatic temperature control is included, along with rear air vents and a rear floor heating duct. Smart Key with push-button start is also standard.
Outside, the Light has 17-inch alloy wheels, LED Small Cube projection headlamps, LED daytime running lights and rear privacy glass. Heated, power-adjustable exterior mirrors include LED repeater lamps. A battery heating system, drive modes, Shift By Wire and an electric parking brake with Auto Hold are included as part of the standard powertrain and mechanical equipment.
Digital Tools for Time Behind the Wheel
The EV3 starts with a 12.3-inch multimedia interface with navigation, AM/FM/MP3, HD Radio and SiriusXM. A 12.3-inch TFT Supervision cluster is paired with a designated 5-inch HVAC display. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, as are Bluetooth and a six-speaker audio system. Kia Connect with over-the-air updates is also included.
Kia Connect provides several remote functions that can become part of a regular commute. Drivers can remotely lock or unlock the doors, use remote climate functions and check vehicle status. EV-specific services include Remote Charge, Charge Schedule, Target State of Charge and Battery Pre-Condition. The system can also provide battery status, charge status and the estimated time required to reach the selected charge target.
Driver Assistance for Regular Highway Travel
The Light includes driver-assistance systems for several common commuting situations. Highway Driving Assist 1 is standard, along with Smart Cruise Control 2 with Stop and Go. Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Following Assist 2 provide additional lane-related support. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 1.5 includes car, pedestrian and cyclist detection plus junction turning capability.
Other standard features include:
- Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist
- Blind-Spot Collision Warning
- Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist
- Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning
- Driver Attention Warning
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist
- Safe Exit Assist
- High Beam Assist
- Front and rear Parking Distance Warning
- Rear View Camera with dynamic parking guidance
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Eight airbags are also standard.
Wind Adds the Long Range Battery
Wind represents a significant change from Light because it introduces the larger 81.4-kWh battery. The Wind FWD also adds a heat pump, laminated front door windows and a wireless phone charger. In FWD, this configuration has a preliminary range estimate of 517 km. Wind AWD uses the same 81.4-kWh battery but adds all-wheel drive and 19-inch alloy wheels, with a preliminary range estimate of 451 km.
That makes Wind the point in the lineup where drivers can choose between maximum listed preliminary range and an AWD configuration.
Land Adds Features for Busy Days Away
Land builds on Wind FWD with several convenience and exterior features. A Smart Power Liftgate can help with cargo access. The trim also adds a wide sunroof, auto-flush door handles, Dynamic Welcome Lighting, LED taillights, power-folding side-view mirrors and Aeroblade wipers.
Inside, synthetic leather replaces the cloth upholstery. A power driver seat with lumbar support is also included, along with an electronic chromic mirror. Rain-sensing wipers complete the list of added technology. Land is available in both FWD and AWD forms.
GT-Line Adds Vehicle-to-Load Capability
The GT-Line expands the equipment list with features that can become useful once the EV3 reaches a destination. Vehicle-to-Load capability is included, along with HomeLink. The EV3 integrated charging system supports bidirectional V2L energy flow on models equipped with the feature. The GT-Line also adds memory for the driver seat, a power passenger seat and ventilated front seats. A sport three-spoke steering wheel and deluxe pedals are included. Its exterior receives GT-Line elements and a specific 19-inch alloy wheel design. Both FWD and AWD versions are listed.
GT-Line Limited Expands Highway and Parking Tech
GT-Line Limited builds on GT-Line with additional driver-assistance technology. Highway Driving Assist 2 replaces the earlier HDA system. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2 adds functions for junction crossing, direct oncoming traffic, lane-change situations, Driver Steering Assist and Evasive Steering Assist. Blind View Monitor and Surround View Monitor provide additional views around the vehicle.
Parking technology expands with Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Reverse, side Parking Distance Warning and Remote Smart Park Assist. The GT-Line Limited also adds Ambient Mood Lighting, a Harman/Kardon premium sound system and Digital Key 2.0.
2027 Kia EV3: One EV for the Workweek and the Weekend
The Kia EV3 lineup provides several ways to balance the needs of a regular commute with trips that reach beyond the weekday route.
Standard Range FWD combines a 58.3-kWh battery with a preliminary estimated 356 km of electric range. Long Range FWD uses the 81.4-kWh battery and increases the preliminary estimate to 517 km. Long Range AWD pairs the larger battery with two electric motors and provides a preliminary estimated 451 km of range.
For everyday use, the compact exterior dimensions, standard navigation, wireless smartphone connectivity and driver-assistance systems address many of the demands of regular commuting. When plans change, the 60:40 rear seats and adjustable cargo floor provide up to a preliminary 1,600 litres of cargo capacity behind the first row.
Higher trims add features with relevance beyond the daily drive, including AWD, a Smart Power Liftgate, ventilated front seats and Vehicle-to-Load capability.
That range of configurations lets the Kia EV3 handle two parts of a driver’s routine: predictable weekday kilometres and longer days with more distance, more cargo, and a destination beyond the regular commute.
